When Rugby and Footy Merged

Before the AFL, there was the VFL, and its rugby league equivalent NSWRL. The NSWRL hated Rugby Union, and the VFL hated pretty much everyone else. In the early 20th Century, these two unlikely friends decided they'd try and take over the literal football world by combining their game into a freakish hybrid game - Universal Football. There was only one problem - they never played a single game of it. In this 9-part series, the GAZ-man explores the full history of how the AFL came to be the massive empire it is today. Part 4 covers the time period from 1907 to 1933 - the much-forgotten near-merger of Rugby League and Australian Rules, which would have created the single biggest game in Australia, and how the game completely fell apart without so much as a minute being played to the rules they drew up.
