Velvet weaving time lapse
Weaving velvet by hand on a small 4 shaft floor loom showing each step of the process. Project specs: Dorset loom 2/120 silk and gold lurex 78 epi 566 ends (ground warp), 900 ends (pile warp), 1466 total ends 6 pile ends/pile bout 1 pile bout/3 ground ends 7 1/4” wide in the reed with 3/4” tabby on either side of pile section. 3 samples: 1-testing out pile rod materials, settled on size 0 double pointed knitting needles 2-solid cut velvet with the size 0 dpns, 4 rows at the top with size 2 3-voided velvet with gold lurex, ciselé: cutting some pile and leaving others as loops to create a two-tone effect in the pile, used size 0 dpns and a pick-up stick to create the design
