Hand Making Velvet | Venice | Italy

Luigi Bevilacqua (born 1844) opened a weaving mill in 1875 with the help of his associate Battista Gianoglio. The building they chose, on Fondamenta San Lazzaro in Venice, had previously been the site of the Silk Weaving School of the Republic of Venice. Abandoned at the beginning of the 19th century, the tools of this traditional handcraft contained within the School might have been lost had it not been for Luigi's commitment to keeping it alive.
