Replacing Rear Driveshaft U-Joints on 1997 2.5L Jeep Wrangler TJ
In the quest to conquer weird noises and vibrations in this Jeep that I’ve owned for about 6 months now, I’m replacing the U-joints in the rear driveshaft. This is my first time ever doing U-joints so I learn a good bit along the way and share my tips and lessons learned. My old U-joint caps did not come loose without a fight. They were really stuck in the bore so I used a “screwdriver technique” to assist. After replacing the U-joints and removing the front driveshaft (which also needs work), the weird noises remain but the vibrations seem to be much better and overall things are quieter. I call it a success! Project TJ is the chronicling of working on my 1997 Jeep Wrangler. It's the SE version of a TJ with a 2.5L four cylinder and a standard transmission. At the time of making this video, the Jeep had ~204,100 miles on it. I hope you enjoy!
