Boundary Clocks vs Transparent Clocks in Hyperscale Network
Traditionally, scaling up PTP clock trees was done by Boundary Clocks. Boundary Clocks (BCs) require disruptive modifications in the switch Network Operating System (NOS). Alternatively, Transparent Clocks (TCs) rely solely on the switch ASIC, making TCs easier to implement. In addition, features such as error bound benefit the most in pure TC networks. In this study we present the implementation of TC in a Switch NOS.
