Buttock pain radiating down the leg is often associated with sciatica. However, not all such pain originates in the spine. Similar symptoms can be caused by lumbar disc herniation, compression of the sciatic nerve, sacroiliac joint, piriformis muscle, hip disease, and sometimes other conditions that are not typical of sciatica. In this video, I explain where pain radiating from the buttock to the leg can come from and what to look for. You'll learn when the pain is more likely to be sciatica, when it's the hip, when it's the sacroiliac joint, and when the symptoms should prompt an urgent medical consultation.
