Chinese New Year coming! 文记怡保芽菜鸡饭 Wen Kee Chicken Rice, then CNY walkabout Sunshine Central Farlim!

Chinese New Year is around the corner, and shops are literally painted red everywhere! But before we go shopping, we had to have a good lunch first. My wife suggested this chicken rice place near her workplace she frequents on weekdays during lunch. Which makes sense because this stall only operates from 11am to 2pm Tuesday to Sunday! Just 3 hours! I was intrigued. So we drove 45 minutes from our place just to try this chicken rice and arrived at 12.15pm, it looked like it was almost going to sell out! It was good, especially the chicken and the rice and the soup! All the basics tasted good, with the chili augmenting the taste even more with the slightly spicy and sour tinge it added. The braised intestines were a bit salty but still had a good texture. All in all, pretty good chicken rice in Penang... but I would still rate it lower than Singapore's standards. Don't shoot the messenger, this is based on my tastebuds and preference. After the meal it was time to walk off a few calories and we visited Sunshine Central Mall in Farlim, a new mall which opened its doors in December 2024. It was awesome that there was still free parking! Not all the shops had been opened yet, and renovation sounds could be heard from some stores. We had coffees at Cafe Amazon, then did some CNY shopping at Sunshine, where we were pleased to come across a Lion Dance troupe in the supermarket! Made the kids happy for sure!
