The gluteal muscles are often involved in pain that radiates down the leg. Severely tense gluteal muscles – especially the piriformis – can press on the sciatic nerve (piriformis syndrome). This exercise can help you by massaging your gluteal muscles and releasing trigger points. --------------------------- HOW DOES THIS EXERCISE WORK? In this video, we'll show you how to release muscle tension yourself by treating trigger points (also known as myogelosis). These small knots form when muscles are constantly tense or overused, trapping the muscle in chronic tension. By pressing these trigger points while gently moving the muscle, you release it from this chronic tension and increase its range of motion. Self-massage can be painful: Only press as hard as you can comfortably tolerate while still breathing calmly. The pain usually subsides somewhat within a short time.
