[1992 Japan Derby (GI) Race Commentary] The star of the year was Miho no Bourbon, the masterpiece of trainer Tameo Toyama, known for his rigorous training on the slopes at Ritto Training Center. Armed with the speed unleashed by his well-trained chestnut physique, he had won five consecutive races since his debut, including the Satsuki Sho, before heading to the Japan Derby. With veteran jockey Sadahiro Kojima on his back, Miho no Bourbon took the lead from gate 15 without hesitation and boldly pulled away from the rest of the pack. At the crucial point, the horses behind him closed the gap, but he pulled away again in the straight and won by a margin of four lengths. Following Tokai Teio the previous year, an undefeated double crown winner was born for the second year in a row. This was trainer Toyama's first victory in 24 years, since Tanino Hello More in 1968. For jockey Kojima, who was 40 years old (at the time of the race), this was his first Japanese Derby victory.
