Variable Primary Flow (VPF) Chilled Water System consists of variable speed pumps that are responsible for the distribution of chilled water through the system. Isolation valves used in the variable primary flow(VPF) system shall be slowly opening to avoid the abrupt change of flow through the operating chiller during staging up of chillers. Chillers used in Variable Primary Flow Chilled System shall be able to handle the variable flow through the evaporator. Flow-through the chiller shall be maintained between the minimum and maximum limit. A bypass line with a control valve is used to maintain the minimum flow through the operating chiller during low load conditions. A flow meter is used to measure the return water flow which is used to control the fast-acting bypass control valve. We discussed in detail about sequence of operation of variable primary flow chilled system. Also, we discussed how we can over-pump the operating chillers to lower the impact of low delta T on the variable primary flow chilled system.
