Sesc Sonora Brasil Project The project aims to disseminate the diversity of music, valuing the authenticity of works, composers, and performers. Through thematic selections, it presents important aspects of its development and aims to contribute to the preservation and memory of the country's musical culture. This year, due to Covid-19, all activities will be held virtually. Themes: The music of the original peoples of Brazil and Female Lyrics: the presence of women in Brazilian music Organized by: Sesc - Social Service of Commerce | National Department | Sesc Regional Departments Sonora Brasil Curatorship: The curatorial group is formed by technicians from all Regional Departments and the National Department of Sesc. The curatorial team is responsible for defining the themes and the groups participating in the project. Musical Documentary of the Nóg Gã Group, of the Kaingang People (São Leopoldo/RS) The documentary is part of the Sonora Brasil Project within the theme "The music of the original peoples". The recording was filmed in August 2021 and showcases the musicality of the Nóg Gã group, representing the Kaingang ethnic group from the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The Nóg Gã group is composed of indigenous people from various Kaingang villages in the São Leopoldo region of Rio Grande do Sul. The Kaingang have inhabited southern and southeastern Brazil for centuries. Through body painting, using lines and circular shapes, it is possible to identify who are the KAMÉ (long marks) and the KAIRÚ (round marks). This distinction defines the forms of relationships and contact between the two groups. The Kaingang are characterized by their fierceness, and their rituals involve choreographed movements and a cyclical musical context. The Kaingang language belongs to the Macro-Jê linguistic family. During the performance, the Kaingang use war spears as percussion instruments. In contact with the ground, they symbolically demarcate and rhythmically underpin the choreographic movements.
