Cinco dirigentes de la COB pasan la noche en celdas de la FELCC tras ser aprehendidos en El Alto

A special unit of the Bolivian Police (plainclothes officers with their faces covered) executed an arrest warrant against five leaders of the Bolivian Workers' Central (COB) in the Cruce Villa Adela area of El Alto, transferring them to cells of the Special Force for the Fight Against Crime (FELCC), where they have been held since the night of Sunday, June 7, awaiting their appearance before a judge. Despite the fact that the detainees (Limber Onofre, a construction worker; Patricia Sánchez, an urban teacher; Ever Bravo, a factory worker; Sergio Onofre, a university student; and Heitero Mamani, a miner) shouted "We are from the COP, help us!" while being handcuffed inside a vehicle, Vice President Edmand Lara went to the FELCC to verify that the investigations respected fundamental rights and questioned why the arresting officers were acting with their faces covered. The arrest of these five members of the COB Executive Committee comes on the 38th day of a conflict that has blocked the country's main highways, while judicial authorities will decide in the coming hours whether the detainees face preventive detention or alternative measures.
