Historietas de Segovia.Capitulo VIII Completo. El malparto de Isabel de Valois

At the Fuenfría mountain pass are the ruins of a primitive inn, built in the 12th century, which served as a refuge for those crossing the Sierra de Guadarrama. Already in the mid-16th century, on her way to the Valsaín Palace, Isabel de Valois, third wife of Philip II, who was pregnant, had to stay at this public inn, having to endure that night unsanitary conditions unworthy of her and her entourage. Such was the unpleasant experience that the king ordered the construction of a Royal Hostel in Fuenfría, also known as Casa Eraso or Casarás Convent, which was used by different monarchs until the mid-18th century, when Charles III ordered the road to be opened through the Navacerrada mountain pass. This passage through Fuenfría fell into disuse, and with it, that building, of which only a few ruins remain.
