Why Self-care is Not Real Self-love

Is self-care actually the same thing as self-love? I used to think so, until I started noticing how easily a bubble tea or a spa day can sit right next to some pretty harsh self-criticism, at the same time. This video is my honest look at the self-care trend, why I think it works (and isn't a bad thing), and why I've started wondering if it's more of a cute bandaid than actual healing. I get into a comparison that's been stuck in my head for a while, the difference between buying a kid a toy and actually loving them unconditionally, even when they're being difficult. And I think that's closer to what real self-love looks like, versus what we usually call "treating yourself." If you've ever caught yourself holding a treat in one hand and giving yourself grief in the other, this one's for you.
