The Bronze Age Rebuilt

As 2021 drew to a close, so did our Operation Nightingale Bronze Age roundhouse project. In the last chapter of our 'Rebuilding the Bronze Age' series, Butser's project archaeologist Trevor caught up with Richard Osgood, one of the founders of Operation Nightingale. They marvelled about the fact that, in a little more than a year, our roundhouse went from a series of 3,200 year old postholes to a finished building. Quite an amazing achievement! In the process, everyone involved explored their own personal journey - gaining new knowledge of the Bronze Age, new skills and - best of all - new friends. ▬ About Us ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Butser Ancient Farm is an open-air experimental archaeology museum and active research centre, learning about the past by recreating it. Our experiments are world-renowned, and our buildings include a Roman villa, Celtic village, Stone Age farm and Saxon halls — all reconstructed from real UK archaeology, and open to be explored! We do everything we can do share our passion for the past, from visitor opening and school groups to filming our experiments for bitesize documentaries. ▬ Support Us ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Thanks to our supporters, we can continue to explore the cutting-edge of experimental archaeology, expand our understanding of the distant past, and pass our passion for archaeology onto the next generation.
