Learn the simplest way to sew a notched collar! This sewing tutorial features the Elsi revere collar shirt sewing pattern, but you can apply the same sewing technique to other shirt, blouse, jacket and coat sewing patterns that feature a notched collar and a facing. What is a notched collar? A notched collar consists of a separate collar piece sewn to the neckline of the garment, and of a lapel that is made by sewing a facing to the front pieces. In this sewing technique, the collar is first sewn separately without a collar stand. The collar is basted to the right side of the neckline. Then the facing is sewn first to the hem of the garment, and then to the front edges and the neckline. The collar will be sandwiched between the pieces.
