Nature’s Neighbor - Counting the Minutes

Happy 2026 everyone! In the now well established NN tradition, we are starting the year off with a sad song. I suppose it goes along with the seasonal sadness that I’m sure lots of us are feeling right now. I like starting the year with a sad song. If we start the year out on a low note, the only place we can go is up. It’s my tentative way of starting the year. I could go into where I was mentally when I wrote this song back in early 2019, but it’s a bit of a downer so I won’t dwell on it here. All I’ll say for now is that I wrote it when I was struggling with addiction and I’m happy to write that 6 years later I’ve been free of that vice for over five years and I’m so grateful for every day I get to experience life without being chained to it. I hope this year we can all free ourselves a little more from the forces that may have been holding us down in years past. Every day is a chance to start fresh.
