Meningococo en Uruguay: Laura Llambí responde dudas sobre la nueva campaña gratuita de vacunación

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) is opening registration today, Monday, for free meningococcal vaccinations for adolescents aged 13, 14, and 15. This measure is part of the expansion of the campaign implemented by the Ministry after detecting an unusual increase in cases of meningococcal disease during 2026. Interested minors can register through the MSP website to receive the corresponding doses. The strategy will continue to expand, and starting next Monday, August 3, vaccinations will also be available for children aged 9 and 10. The campaign began to expand after health authorities identified an increase in cases and decided to strengthen protection in the groups considered most vulnerable. In 2025, Uruguay incorporated the meningococcal vaccine into the national immunization schedule, with doses for infants at 2, 4, 12, and 15 months, in addition to a booster dose at age 11 for certain newborns. According to data from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), as of July 18, more than 40,000 adolescents out of a population of approximately 120,000 had already received at least one dose. The Ministry plans to continue progressively expanding free vaccination to include children and adolescents between the ages of 2 and 18.
