Surviving 5 days in Heavy Atlantic Wind and Waves
Ocean passage , first leg of the Atlantic crossing from Las Palmas to Cape Verde - Mindelo. Big seas , high winds , downwind sailing off the coast of Africa. Aequitas sails well in these conditions, we experience light winds leaving Las Palmas, and then the wind builds and sustains at 20 Knts and above for most of the passage. Our watch system starts as 3 hrs on and off for two persons, then we tried 2 hrs on 6 hrs off for one person and that proved more popular. We spot flying fish, Dolphins ,and Frigate birds . But we fail to get video of the pilot whale pod we spotted on approach to Mindelo. Safely berthed on the island we took a couple of trips on around the island , and one to neigbouring island Santo Antao. Islands of very different character and colour but both with spectacular mountains and wide skies. We make our final preparations and social events before the start of the next leg 3000 miles to Grenada in the Caribbean. worldcrusing.com #sailintothesunset #Atlantic crossing #ARC #ARC +
