Communication: A Process that CAN be Improved

I see the world as an interrelated series of processes. Biology, Business, Spirituality, Communication...to me, I either see patterns/ processes OR I am in search for insight. I was taught the basic principles of communication decades ago in the U.S. Air Force (Sender, Message, Receiver, Feedback) and am amazed at how this simple cycle reveals so much about human interaction. In my experience, feedback tends to be the most needed area for improvement and of course the willingness of the sender to revise messages based on feedback. In today’s video, I explore the basics of communication and build on this with a new (to me) technique for breaking the ice in a new conversation. F.O.R.M. was shared with me recently and I want to share with you. The basic idea is to ask questions in a structure to get to know the other person better. The categories for these questions are: Family Occupation Recreation Motivation To me, the F.O.R.M. structure takes the randomness of a conversation and replaces it with purpose. If you try this in your next new conversation, let me know your results in the comments below!
