London Buses 2020 - Arriva in North London Part 1

Welcome to my 2020 video survey of Arriva in North London. This is the first of three videos shot in Spring/Summer 2020. I am pleased with the parts shot in the Spring, but as we got into Summer, there were a lot of very cloudy days and the light quality became very poor. That’s your British weather for you! In my earlier 2020 videos, I started putting in information about how long the bus company had operated the route, and to avoid confusion I have moved away from talking about TfL contracts (which have an award date as well as a start date) to simply say when a route was taken over, or handed over, which I hope is clearer. Something else which requires clarification is that, in these videos, I make statements like “Operated by Arriva companies since tendering began.” “Arriva companies” is a shorthand for Arriva and its constituents (like The Shires), as well as its antecedents (like Cowie Group companies e.g. Grey-Green) or parts of the former London Buses Ltd. organisation (like Leaside Buses), or companies like London Country North West, which ended up being absorbed into what would eventually become Arriva. Tendering, of course, began in the 1980s, but at different times for different parts of the route network, so if you want to know the history of any particular route, I would recommend that you visit Ian Armstrong’s splendid London Bus Routes website (https://www.londonbuses.co.uk/) which is a goldmine of information.
