2002 in Australian digital TV: DBA

Before on-demand streaming, before TiVo knew what you wanted, and before multichannels were allowed to show anything and high definition went mainstream … Digital Broadcasting Australia existed to promote the digital transition before FreeTV formed FreeView. This was a difficult brief, when the benefits were all about picture quality and the widescreen transition a few years behind the UK … and maybe about multi-angle, and maybe-maybe about interactivity (MHP was even less successful than MHEG-5). Their greatest contribution was the DBA Forum, which became DTV Forum, for a time the only place to find real information about high definition broadcasting in Australia. RIP 2001-2015.
