2002 in Australian digital TV: Nine
Before on-demand streaming, before TiVo knew what you wanted, and before multichannels were allowed to show anything and high definition went mainstream … Nine was one of two networks happiest with the new Australian digital TV regime, and this comes across in their enthusiasm about the technical superiority. The "9 DIGITAL" branding was created as a distinct trademark without hesitation, in the same way that "9 COLOUR" had once been made, and various "9 HD" and "9 HDTV" brands would be made in coming years. (Also see @1:57 for the very rare "9 WIDESCREEN" branding). While HD would be "seductive" and "engaging", showing a piece of the HD demo loop came from a place of confidence and of being the long-term market leader. So much so, that they missed the answer to the rhetorical question: "What are you waiting for?" Streaming. Converted from 576i50, including 576pSF content Some originated on film or 1080p24/25 or 1080i50
