SURTR — lord of the fire-giants of Múspellheim, older than the gods, with a sword of flame brighter than the sun. When his thousand riders touch the rainbow bridge, the colors begin to bleed. Red turns to black. Blue cracks like glass. Every hoof on the arc of seven hues is a thunder-crack across the heavens. And then — Bifröst breaks. The bridge that the gods themselves built falls in pieces of shattered light into the dark. There is no road back to Asgard. The Æsir who marched out for the last battle stand on Vígríðr plain, the field of doom, with no way home behind them. This is the moment of no return. This is the prologue to the end of the world.
