Welcome back to our channel in this video we continue to built a house for my subscribers. A bad concrete pour is often caused by an improper water-to-cement ratio, poor subgrade preparation, or incorrect weather management during the pour. Visible signs include scaling (peeling), honeycombing (exposed gravel), and random cracking. Excessive Cracking: Random, jagged cracks rather than clean control joints. Review these common indicators and how to fix them to prevent further structural issues: 1. Common Warning Signs Dusting or Powdery Surface: The top layer is soft and crumbles when scratched, often caused by adding extra water on-site or overworking the surface during finishing. Scaling and Delamination: The surface flakes, peels, or pits away from the base. Honeycombing: Visible voids and air pockets on the sides of the slab, pointing to improper vibration or compaction during the pour. Improper Drainage: Water pools on the slab or flows toward your building's foundation instead of away from it. 2. How to Address the Issues Minor cosmetic flaws can often be repaired, while major structural errors require complete replacement. Before deciding on a repair path, consult authoritative resources Early signs you can spot after a bad concrete job/poor concrete job Within 48 hours of pouring 1. Standing water that does not drain or move to the correct slope. 2. Surface looks sandy or chalky when rubbed by hand. 3. Random dark and light patches with no pattern. 4. Shallow footprints, trowel marks, or swirl patterns that did not finish out. 5. Scaling or flaking that exposes the top layer of paste and fine aggregate. 6. Pop-outs, which are small conical pits caused by trapped impurities or freeze-thaw action. 7. Cracks that run across full panels instead of following control joints. 8. Edges that crumble, especially along driveway aprons and corners.
