Kanaky-Nouvelle-Calédonie : il faut en finir avec la situation coloniale !

The provincial elections sent a clear message. Contrary to what had been predicted for the past two years, the independence movement was not swept away. On the contrary, it emerged strengthened, and those in favor of an association agreement between France and Kanaky-New Caledonia now represent a political majority. It is time to draw the necessary conclusions. We refuse to allow Kanaky-New Caledonia to remain trapped in a colonial situation that has lasted far too long. Peace cannot be built through force or by denying the will expressed at the ballot box. With Jean-Luc Mélenchon, we propose a clear path: enabling Kanaky-New Caledonia to achieve full sovereignty at the beginning of the next five-year term, within the framework of an association agreement negotiated between two free and equal states. This agreement must guarantee a controlled transition, preserve necessary cooperation, support the transfer of powers, and allow Kanaky-New Caledonia to build its future in conditions of stability, justice, and mutual respect. We also propose the creation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to shed full light on the events of 2024 and the repression that followed. No lasting peace can be built on silence, forgetting, or injustice. The time for dialogue has come. The time for decolonization has also arrived. France has a reckoning with its history. It must finally recognize the Kanak people's right to freely decide their own destiny.
