Monday Okpebholo of the all progressives congress, emerged winner of the Edo elections, over the weekend, after defeating his closest rival Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Monday Okpebholo, In a statement posted X by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on media and strategy, Tinubu asked Okpebholo not to gloat over his victory. In the meantime, a video showing the president promising to return Edo State, to the All progressives congress has resurfaced online, eliciting several reactions. Over the weekend, reports of voter suppression, vote buying and ballot box snatching characterized the election. Videos of ballot papers being burnt and people captured with money to influence voters also made rounds on social media. On Sunday night, in a broadcast to residents, Godwin Obaseki called for calm, saying those who feel aggrieved should follow due process by challenging the outcome in court.
