ひとりの男に神を憑依させ、お寺の境内で「お遊び」頂く。その進路を塞いだり、神をも恐れぬ不敬を行ったりすると、神に捕まり3年以内に絶命する。そんな恐ろしい言い伝えがある祭りが岡山にある。 今年で749回目を迎える、美咲町の二上山護法祭だ。 神の依り代「護法実（ごほうざね、ゴーサマ）」を10年前に引き継いだ白川晃太郎さん。その身に神を迎えるため、祭りの1週間前には毎年、山寺へ籠もり修業する。修業中、外部との接触や連絡は禁止され家族でさえ会うことはできない。そんな過酷なお役目を受け継いだ白川さんの思いとは？ また、歴史ある祭りを繋ぐ両山寺の住職・井上観賢さんは、恐ろしいイメージが先行する今の祭りのあり方を危惧する。井上さんが伝えたいと願う祭り本来の意味とは？そして、何事もなく「ゴーサマ」がお遊びを終えるのか？ （注：TV番組OA当時の紹介文を使用しています） A man becomes possessed by a god, who "plays" within the temple grounds. If you block the god's path or act disrespectfully, you will be caught and die within three years. There's a festival in Okayama with this terrifying legend. This year marks the 749th occurrence of the Futakamisan Gohousai in Misaki Town. Kotaro Shirakawa inherited the role of Gohozane (or "Gosama"), the vessel for the god, ten years ago. To prepare for the god's arrival, he secludes himself in a mountain temple for a week before the festival each year for training. During this time, he is forbidden from all outside contact, including with his own family. What drives Shirakawa to take on such an intense role? The head priest of Ryozanji Temple, Kanken Inoue, who helps carry on this historic festival, is concerned about the festival's frightening reputation. What is the festival's true meaning that Priest Inoue wishes to convey?
