French nuclear umbrella over Europe–A challenge to U.S. dominance? | Romain Le Quiniou

With the U.S. pulling some of its conventional military capabilities out of Europe, some fear its nuclear capabilities might be next, severely hampering the deterrence against Russia. France, one of Europe’s only two states with nuclear weapons, has been in talks with countries such as Poland to extend its “nuclear umbrella” over its allies on the continent. But will the U.S. not read it as a challenge? “It’s a wrong assumption to say that France could compete with the nuclear umbrella from the United States. (...) This is not the same. This is complementary,” Romain Le Quiniou, Managing Director at Euro Creative, told TVP World. “I’m sure that in Washington, the decision-makers are very happy that France has also a specific component of nuclear deterrence in Europe,” adding that different allies bringing different strategic capabilities and assets to the table reinforce the alliance on the global stage. Join TVP World’s Ashim Kumar and his guest as they explore the role of the UK, Europe’s other nuclear power, in these calculations, how the rivalry between French and German defense industries hampers the continent’s ability to respond to Russian aggression, and what Poland’s role is in all of this. 🔴 Watch our 24/7 livestream - https://youtube.com/live/m4mVcUReR6Y Bringing you all the latest daily news and updates, TVP World is Poland's first English-language channel where you can find world news as seen from the Polish perspective and the latest news from the CEE region.
