Victor Yeimo at the PPT on the State and Environmental Violence in West Papua

On Jun 27-29, Victor Yeimo of National Committee for West Papua (Komite Nasional Papua Barat) testified as a witness on the case of restriction of freedom of speech and racism. On 9 May 2021, a special police unit, Satgas Nemangkawi, arrested Victor and charged with makar (treason, subversion, rebellion) for peacefully protesting against racial discrimination in Indonesia. Indonesian police accuse Victor Yeimo of being the 'mastermind' behind civil unrest in 2019. Victor was released from the correctional facility in Abepura, Jayapura City, on 23 September 2023 after serving a sentence of one year.
