1993 MER League Cycle Race at Boot Inn

The 90's was a great time for cycle races in the Dublin area, with races within 50 miles each weekend as well as mid-week events in the Phoenix park and track. The Mid-East Region ran a series of races, usually on Saturday's which were well supported, mosr riders used them as training races to build speed. Sometimes the race were handicapped, which gave all abilities a fair chance of winning. This M.E.R. race started at the Boot Inn at the rear of Dublin airport, it went north out to Ballyboghil and then did three laps of a circuit around the 'Nags Head' and back to finish at the Boot Inn. It was good to see Peter Morton was racing in this event, he was a top cyclist in the 70's and he seemed to be enjoying himself in the backmarkers. About 4 years ago, I met Peter out cycling near Swords and it was he, who said that the old pictures and videos I have should be posted online as there is very little cycling coverage from the past. So all of you say 'thank you Peter Morton' for pushing me to post these videos. Sadly Peter died in February, 2025. 1993 MER League - Boot Inn Race Result: 1. Scott McDonald (Orwell Wheelers) 2.
