Full session Possession vs Penetration
Today’s session is about Possession vs Penetration. Why we keep possession or when we should attempt to penetrate. , When to keep possession and when to attack. How to attack or how to be patient and keep possession. Where on the field to take chances and where to be reserved. 1. Time: 12 mins Work Rate: 2 mins Rest: 1 min Reps: 4 (Have teams play against each other and switch target each game) Set up Players are set in groups of 4. Set players by position so they can start to build relationships with players in their units. Especially the 3 that will play in midfield. Organization Two games of 3v3. The aim to score is to get the ball to your target man (cf) on other side. Targets can be used by both teams, A center back for one team and the center forward for the other. After a goal is scored play out to opposite team. Coaching Points Decision making: Patient in possession. Wait for right opportunity to penetrate to attack. 2 Time: 12 mins Work Rate: 3 mins Rest: 1 min Reps: 3 Set up 3v3 plus 2 targets and 4 fullbacks Organization 3v3 but players now have a neutral who acts as CB for one team and CF for the other. Both teams have fullbacks that are the release value for both teams. Fullbacks can be pressed once they have the ball. To score midfield need to get the ball to the CF receive it back and score. Any player can score after the center forward passes the ball back. Coaching Points Decision making: Patient in possession. Wait for right opportunity to penetrate to attack. Attacking principles: Width, depth and height Fullbacks / center backs providing support to ensure possession is kept 3. Time: 18 mins Work Rate: 4 mins Rest: 2 min Reps: 3 Set up 9v9 Organization Ball starts in the middle. Fullbacks provide width to help relieve pressure. Aim is to get ball to striker, build and then go to goal. Coaching Points Decision making: Patient in possession. Wait for right opportunity to penetrate to attack. Attacking principles: Width, depth and height Fullbacks / center backs providing support to ensure possession is kept 4.
