Their hearts are hypocritical; they must repent! He will tear down their altars and overthrow their sacred pillars. Then they will say, "We have no king, for we did not fear the Lord—what good will a king do us?" Samaria will fall, and its king will be like a broken branch on the surface of the water. The heights of Aven will be destroyed—the sin of Israel. Thorns and thistles will grow up on their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!" Sow for yourselves righteousness, and you will reap love; clear your clearings. It is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and sends you justice. Gospel (Matthew 10:1-7) Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to heal every disease and every infirmity. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew; then James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John; then Philip and Bartholomew; then Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; then James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; then Simon the Zealot; and then Judas Iscariot, the betrayer. These twelve Jesus sent out and instructed: "Do not go to the Gentiles, and do not enter any Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
