The Falklands War, or Malvinas, as the armed conflict is known, broke out in April 1982 between Great Britain and Argentina. The Falklands had long been a bone of contention between the two countries. The war also contributed to Margaret Thatcher's continued tenure as British Prime Minister. Although more than 40 years have passed since the end of the Falklands War, Argentina has still not come to terms with its affiliation with the archipelago.
