Le campane di Groppello d'Adda, Cassano d'Adda (MI) - Suonate a festa e concerto

The ancient village of Groppello (Italy) arose in medieval times on the left bank of the Adda River. The first church dedicated to the holy apostle Bartholomew was built in the year 1000 and is mentioned several times in local books and documents. The village grew in importance at the end of the 16th century, when the ancient castle was transformed into an archiepiscopal palace by the holy bishop Charles. In 1618, his cousin Federico Borromeo had a large wheel built, taking advantage of a patent by Leonardo Da Vinci, to convey the water needed to irrigate the vegetable gardens. In the early 19th century, Cardinal Gaisruck enriched the villa with immense Italian gardens, irrigated by water from the Naviglio canal. On 16 July 1952, Blessed Schuster ceded the archbishop's palace to the parish. The ancient medieval church was rebuilt in the 16th century, anticipating its erection as a parish on 14 January 1584. The Renaissance church was enriched with valuable marble in 1760, when the old mensa was set into the new Baroque high altar. The elegant 16th-century bell tower was embellished in 1814 with the casting of a new concert of five bells in the musical scale of E major, the work of Maestro Monzini of Bergamo. The fragile copper and tin alloy caused three bells to progressively break, which were recast in 1830, 1844 and 1858. e' - f' sharp - g' sharp - a' - b' The parish priest invited me to lunch and ring his five bells to celebrate Palm Sunday. It was a week full of rain, which stopped falling as soon as I started ringing the bells. The place is one of the most beautiful places in the province of Milan. The five bells ring with the traditional concert system, anticipated by melodies played by myself and Andrea, a very intelligent organist friend and economics student at university. In 1873, the parish church was enlarged with the addition of two side aisles, built to respond to the rapid increase in population. This prompted Cardinal Ferrari to design a new church, which was built within three years next to the previous one that had been converted into a warehouse. The interior was decorated with pink granite and prestigious paintings, while the exterior was completed by a wide avenue with the chapels of the Stations of the Cross. #church #catholic #bells #italy #cinematic #culture #art #bell #catholicchurch #view #landscape #river #history
