Hello everyone and welcome to the channel! Today we have a Lenovo V14 G3 sent by a follower on the workbench. The main symptom? The laptop is completely dead and does absolutely nothing when the power button is pressed. Connected to the lab power supply, I noticed a pulsating consumption of maximum 40mA. After investigating at the component level on the motherboard, I found a perfect short circuit (0 Ohm) on the secondary 3.3V line. I resorted to current injection and, with the help of a thermal camera, I found a hot capacitor fixed next to the PD controller TPS65993! But the repair did not stop there. Although the laptop started after removing the short, other surprises appeared: the keyboard was unresponsive, and the laptop shut down at regular intervals. I took out the SVOD programmer in advance for tests, and the mystery of the sudden shutdowns was solved only after a clean BIOS and Intel ME Region update.
