⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ BART: Fleet of the Future and Legacy Trains at Lake Merritt + New Real-Time Station Displays

Welcome to Lake Merritt! Here we see the standard assortment of a mix of Fleet of the Future and legacy trains arriving and departing the underground station, with a special addition: new real-time departure and information displays on platform level. As of the upload date of this video, Lake Merritt is the only station in the BART system equipped with these new displays. Unlike the dot matrix signs that are ubiquitous throughout the system, these new displays are in full color and display real-time departures alongside important information, instead of cycling between the two. The displays were installed at Lake Merritt in May 2021, and are a glimpse of the future of passenger information at BART stations. The signs also colorize the various BART lines, which is part of the agency's efforts to get people to refer to the lines by their colors after decades of referring to them only by their destinations. 19th St/Oakland is set to be the next station to receive the new displays should their pilot at Lake Merritt be successful.
