Update-Mandy 36:10 Years Homeless on the Streets of Phoenix | "My 30-Day Plan Is Just to Stay Alive"
In this update interview, we catch up with Mandy, a 36-year-old woman who has been living on the streets of Phoenix on and off for the past 10 years. Mandy shares the daily realities of surviving homelessness as a woman, including dealing with constant harassment, unwanted propositions, violence, and the struggle to find people she can trust. She talks about being beaten, shot at, stabbed, and facing countless dangerous situations while trying to survive day by day. Despite applying for a housing voucher years ago, Mandy says she has never received the call she has been waiting for. She discusses the challenges of sleep deprivation, addiction, and the fear that comes with trying to stay safe while living outside. At one point, she says she stayed awake for nearly two weeks because she was too afraid to fall asleep. Mandy also reflects on her relationships, the small group of people she considers family on the streets, and the difficult circumstances that have shaped her life. When asked about her goals, she says her main focus right now is simple: staying alive. Thank you for watching and for approaching these stories with compassion and understanding. The purpose of these interviews is to give people an opportunity to share their experiences in their own words and to help viewers better understand the realities of homelessness.
