“Homeless in Phoenix: Harris Makes Art to Survive & Make People Smile”

Harris is 46 years old and currently living homeless on the streets of Phoenix, Arizona. In this emotional interview, he shares how life changed after COVID cost him his apartment and fentanyl addiction took over. Once working in customer service with a stable home, Harris says he escaped rehab five years ago and has been surviving on the streets ever since. He opens up about the trauma of homelessness, describing being shot at, assaulted, denied water and restrooms, and treated as “less than human.” Harris shares the heartbreaking reality of sleeping at bus stops, walking for miles with blistered feet, and crying at night over the things he’s experienced. Despite everything, Harris still holds onto love for his parents, especially his mother who worries deeply about him and wants him to come home. He also talks about his passion for art, creating small pieces on the roadside each day to make strangers smile. This is a raw and human conversation about addiction, survival, dignity, and what life is really like living homeless in America today.
