[美しき日本] 奈良 天川村 洞川
In this water village nestled among sacred mountains, a gentle heart of compassion flows. Director and Narrator: Naomi Kawase Music: Hashiken --------------------------------- A sacred site brimming with nature, steeped in 1,300 years of history Located in the central Kii Peninsula, Tenkawa Village is surrounded by the Omine mountain range, home to Mount Hakkyogatake, the highest peak in the Kinki region. Due to its natural beauty, one-quarter of the village is designated as Yoshino-Kumano National Park, and the clear streams flowing from the mountains have earned it a place on the list of the "Top 100 Water Villages" (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism). Since En no Gyoja, the founder of Shugendo, established Mount Omine 1,300 years ago, Tenkawa Village has flourished as the central training center for mountain Shugendo. It is said that many aristocrats, including Emperor Uda, Sugawara no Michizane, Fujiwara no Michinaga, and Saigyo Hoshi, have visited the village. Even today, women are not permitted to enter the sacred grounds of Omine. The Hakodo Hall serves as a checkpoint. Legend has it that when En no Gyoja's mother, concerned about his ascetic training, attempted to enter the mountain, Amida Buddha appeared and told her to wait until her son had descended. Perhaps the son's feelings for his mother reached Amida Buddha, as he did not want his mother to enter the mountains, where ferocious animals inhabit.
