A lonely grandmother and her puppy survived at -40°C in an icy shack… So we built them a warm home
A lonely grandmother with a small puppy was surviving in an old icy shack at a temperature of around -40°C in a remote cold settlement in Canada, so we completely rebuilt her home into a warm, safe, modern, and cozy new house. In this video, you will see the full transformation: from an old frozen building covered with snow, ice, cracks, holes, cold walls, a dark entrance, and almost unlivable conditions — into a completely rebuilt house from the ground up, with a warm facade, a solid structure, a cozy bedroom, a modern kitchen, a comfortable living room, a safe entrance, beautiful lighting, insulation, new windows, a clean yard, and a peaceful place for her and her puppy. Author’s note: As the author and architect of this reconstruction, I wanted this house to become not just a new building, but a true warm shelter for a person who had lived for a long time in cold, loneliness, and danger. It was important for me to preserve the emotion of this story: the grandmother holding the small puppy in her arms, trying to keep it warm in conditions where even a few hours could be life-threatening. That is why the main idea of the design was warmth, protection, peace, and the feeling of home. We completely rebuilt the old shack from the ground up. The old frozen structure was replaced with a strong, insulated, and modern house that can withstand a harsh climate. In the design, I used a lot of natural wood, warm lighting, soft beige and brown tones, reliable materials, large windows, a simple comfortable layout, and cozy details, so that inside there would be a feeling of safety even when there is frost, snow, and wind outside. We paid special attention to the space for the grandmother and her puppy. The house now has a warm place to rest, a comfortable bedroom, a clean kitchen, a convenient bathroom, plenty of light, and a small cozy corner for the dog. I wanted the final result to look not just beautiful, but truly human — as if, after many years of cold and survival, she finally received a place where she could live peacefully. Every detail of this house was created with warmth, dignity, care, and a new beginning in mind.
