MBT Demands Telangana Government File Immediate Appeal Against Acquittal of Raja Singh in 2022 Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Remarks Case : Hyderabad, June 30, 2026 Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) expresses serious concern over the acquittal of BJP MLA T. Raja Singh by the Special MP/MLA Court in the 2022 case registered by Mangalhat Police Station concerning remarks allegedly made against Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). While MBT respects the judicial process and the verdict delivered by the Hon'ble Court based on the evidence placed before it, several important questions arise regarding the manner in which the investigation and prosecution were conducted by the State machinery. If the Court has concluded that the prosecution failed to establish the charges, the responsibility now lies upon the investigating agency and the prosecution to explain why such a sensitive case was not pursued with the seriousness it deserved. The Telangana Government and Police Department must clarify: 1. Why was the State not serious in the investigation and trial of a case that had triggered nationwide outrage and communal tensions? 2. Why was the past criminal background of the accused not effectively brought on record during the course of investigation and prosecution? 3. Why were the multiple previous incidents and allegations involving similar remarks and speeches by the accused not taken into consideration to establish a pattern of conduct? 4. Why was a Special Public Prosecutor not appointed in such a highly sensitive case involving public order, communal harmony and religious sentiments? 5. During the pendency of this case, the accused continued to make controversial statements and remarks concerning Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and religious issues. Why were these subsequent incidents not examined by the authorities while pursuing the case? 6. Has the State Government sought a detailed legal opinion regarding the acquittal, and will it file an appeal before the appropriate higher court? This matter is not merely a legal issue but one that directly concerns communal harmony and public peace. Statements targeting revered religious personalities have the potential to inflame sentiments and create law and order problems across the country. Therefore, every such case must be investigated and prosecuted with utmost diligence and professionalism. MBT strongly demands that the Telangana Government immediately obtain the certified copy of the judgment, conduct a thorough review of the investigation and prosecution, and file an appeal against the acquittal if sustainable legal grounds exist. A Special Public Prosecutor should be appointed for pursuing the matter before the appellate court so that all available evidence and legal arguments are properly presented. It is also a matter of concern that irrespective of which political party is in power—whether BRS or Congress—Raja Singh appears to secure relief in case after case. This has created a widespread perception among sections of the public that there is a lack of seriousness on the part of successive governments in prosecuting matters involving hate speech and communal provocation. I would like to remind the public that during the previous BRS Government, I had personally submitted more than twenty complaints, along with supporting evidence, against Raja Singh regarding various alleged provocative and communal statements. However, many of these complaints were reportedly closed during the preliminary stages of inquiry by the then Principal Secretary (Home), Government of Telangana, citing "mistake of facts" or "lack of evidence." Such actions have only strengthened the perception that complaints involving repeated communal provocation are not being pursued to their logical conclusion. MBT therefore calls upon Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the Home Department, and the Director General of Police, Telangana, to ensure that justice is not only done but is also seen to be done. The State must demonstrate its commitment to protecting communal harmony, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that no individual is treated differently because of political considerations.
