The whole idea was inspired by the upholstery in "The Bird," our 1984 Blue Bird Wanderlodge. (And let's face it, we've had crazier ideas!) This episode is a bit longer than normal, as we wanted to take you through the entire process of putting Platinum Ginger and the Cowboy Limousine in storage before heading directly to the center of Chicago in the bus! Initially, we thought traveling the iconic Route 66 was a great idea. But the closer we got to the start sign, the more we had our doubts. Would it just be an old bumpy road lined by abandoned hotels and novelty stores? That's what we were afraid of, but we were wrong! We learned quickly that the cities along Route 66 are worth a stop for any RVer: Chicago, St. Louis, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, and Santa Monica. But the road itself is in great condition, because it has been transitioned to state routes or frontage roads with frequent stops along the way Route 66 can be anything you want it to be, from tapping into the history of this iconic road to a fun way to travel west.
