1978 Cotton Bowl
This is the 1/2/1978 Notre Dame vs Texas game. Texas was #1 and with good reason. They had pretty much dominated all competition and had the nations best player in tailback Earl Campbell. Notre Dame was coached by Dan Devine who, in his third season, hadn't overwhelmed The Irish faithful. They had started off this season in underwhelming fashion which had included a loss at Ole Miss. For the Irish the script flipped when arch rival USC came to town for a game on October 22'nd. A huge Trojan Horse rolled out of the pregame locker area and the players dawned Green Jersey's for the game which ended in a blowout win for ND. From that point they were on a roll the rest of the year. A close call did happen at 15'th ranked Clemson but for the most part they were dominant. Texas was better than they showed in this game but you can't underestimate the power of momentum in the game of football. I claim no rights.
