THIS OLD TEACHER, WHO SERVANTLY TEACHES THE QURAN WITHOUT CHARGES, CHOOSES TO ENDURE HUNGER WITH HER ORPHAN GRANDCHILDREN "When asked what she would eat today, she answered that she would spend whatever money she had and give it to charity. If she didn't have any, she chose to endure her hunger in silence. This is a story of sincerity as deep as the ocean from a twilight Quran teacher." Friends of Kindness, the Abi Fatimah Fahira Berbagi program is once again knocking on the doors of our hearts. This time we had the opportunity to meet an extraordinary role model in a corner of Pancoran: Mrs. Maisaroh (60 years old), an elderly widow who has dedicated the rest of her life to spreading the Quran. Amidst limited space and economic pressures, Mrs. Maisaroh wholeheartedly teaches the Quran to children in her neighborhood. Her very small and confined home has been transformed into a noble place to ignite the light of faith in the hearts of the younger generation. She never charges or charges anything. For her, seeing children able to recite the words of Allah is the greatest joy, although sometimes someone slips a 2,000 or 3,000 rupiah note as a token of gratitude. Not only does she teach children, but every Wednesday night, she also takes time to teach the Quran to women in her neighborhood. Surviving the Poverty Line with Her Orphaned Grandson Behind the nobility of her duties, Ibu Maisaroh's daily life is incredibly difficult. She lives in extreme poverty. Some of her children have died, and others have only managed to complete junior high school. Now, in her small house, she lives with her beloved orphaned grandson. To make ends meet and keep his grandmother company, her grandson works daily as a street musician. When we visited and asked about household chores, her answer was heartbreaking: if she has money, she spends it sparingly and always prioritizes charity. However, if she has no money at all, Mrs. Maisaroh chooses not to eat and endures hunger with her grandchildren. Generous Friends, Mrs. Maisaroh has upheld Allah's religion by ensuring her children continue to study the Quran.
