This time, we meet Ibu Novi, a resilient widow whose husband left her only a year ago. Now, she must shoulder the heavy burden of raising and supporting her three young children alone. To make ends meet and feed her children, Ibu Novi relies on odd jobs. From washing clothes, ironing clothes, to helping neighbors when called upon. The income from these odd jobs is certainly far from guaranteed, and more often than not, it's barely enough to meet the family's daily food needs. Holding Back Hunger in a House Threatened with Sale This small family is all too familiar with the bitterness of hunger. Mrs. Novi and her eldest child are often forced to endure hunger to ensure that the remaining food can feed the younger siblings. The kitchen supplies of rice, eggs, or other ingredients are often empty. Their plight is compounded by the fact that their current residence is not their own. The house was inherited from her late husband, who owned the deceased's extended family, and reportedly plans to sell it someday. The spectre of losing their home continues to haunt Mrs. Novi every day. The Firstborn's Sacrifice for His Beloved Mother These economic hardships have also severely impacted Mrs. Novi's children's education. Due to financial constraints, she was even forced to borrow Rp 150,000 just to buy school supplies for them. Unfortunately, the loan was quickly used up to buy school uniform pants that turned out to be too small, leaving her other school needs unmet. Currently, her eldest child has been forced to temporarily drop out of school due to outstanding tuition fees of Rp 2,700,000. Mrs. Novi's eldest child is a high-achieving child and had received a golden opportunity in the form of a scholarship to a maritime school. However, to see her mother struggling alone at home, she chose to sacrifice her future and give up the scholarship to focus on working odd jobs to help her mother earn a living. Resolution forged through Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays Amidst the storm of trials that came her way, Mrs. Novi refused to surrender to fate. Instead, she drew closer to her Creator by regularly fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. With each prostration and breaking of the fast, tears flowed from her eyes, praying for a way out, for good health, and for business capital so she could eventually start her own business. She yearned to gradually pay off her debts and send her eldest child back to school.
