Comiendo TORTAS FRITAS Argentinas + Mate: Receta, Historia y Tardes de Invierno en Familia 🇦🇷🧉☕🍩

Today we invite you to share some delicious tortas fritas and mates with us. What better way to enjoy them on a cold winter day here in Canada? Tortas fritas are found in many parts of Latin America and Spain under various names. This dish consists of a fried dough that can be sweet or savory. The recipe for tortas fritas is incredibly easy and requires few ingredients: flour, fat, salt, and water. In this video, we'll show you how we prepare the dough and then fry it in oil. Afterwards, we'll sit down to drink some mates and listen to some stories from my dad. #tortasfritas #mate #winter 🍩🥄 Family Tortas Fritas and Mate Afternoons | Easy Recipe, History, and Winter Chat ☕🇦🇷 👋 Welcome and Atmosphere | 🏠☁️ Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to another day in the kitchen with my dad Daniel! It's a gray, sunless, cloudy day, typical of those long winters in the north. Stuck at home, we decided to cheer ourselves up by making fried cakes to go with some mate. Those classic cravings on cold, wet days where mate and something sweet or savory are the best companions. 👨‍🍳 Easy Fried Cakes Recipe | 📝🍽️ Today we're sharing a super easy and inexpensive recipe: flour, animal fat (pork or beef), salt, and water. So simple, with no expensive or complicated ingredients. Prepare half a kilo of flour, 80 grams of fat, a tablespoon of salt, and a cup of warm water. Make a small well in the flour, add the fat and water little by little, combine everything, and knead until you have a smooth ball. Let the dough rest covered for 15 minutes. Then, we divide the dough into portions and shape them (each fried cake can be different!). The oil must be very hot (190°C) so that they come out dry and crispy, not oily. In half an hour, including resting and frying, the cakes are ready. 🥣 Moments and Memories | 🕰️💭 As we cook, anecdotes and memories emerge: We talk about utensils brought from Montreal and garage sales when the family emigrated from Argentina. We recall old country houses, economical wood-burning stoves, the smell of smoke, salami hanging in the pantry, and the typical wine-stained plastic tablecloth. We relive the first time we tried fried cakes on the Argentine highway, accompanied by pure honey given by a beekeeper in Misiones. Stories from difficult times when fried cakes were an economic lifeline and, at the same time, a great pleasure. 🧉 The Mate Ritual | 🍵🤎 We prepare mates to accompany the fried cakes, debating whether to drink them bitter or with sugar. The first sip of mate instantly connects with deep memories and emotions. We talk about yerba mate: its properties for suppressing hunger, helping lower cholesterol, improving energy and concentration, and even fighting infections thanks to its antioxidants. We remember the history of the yerba mate from the Jesuit era and the role of indigenous peoples. ❄️ Winter, Confinement, and "Cabin Fever" | 🥶🏡 The video also turns into a discussion about the typical winter confinement in the North, the famous cabin fever, a phenomenon known in Canada, Alaska, and the Yukon during long snowstorms, when being inside for long periods of time affects mood and mental health. We recount stories from the past: trappers, gold prospectors, trading posts, the history of the Hudson's Bay Company, and how Native peoples organized themselves in the vast wilderness. We reflect on the challenges of isolation, pandemics, and the value of small rituals like cooking as a family to help us get through difficult days. 🍯 Customs, Sweetness, and Diet | 🥄🍯 We try fried cakes, both savory and sweet (with honey or sugar). We share memories of breakfasts, snacks, and dinners in times of scarcity, when simple was the best. We discuss the post-holiday diet challenge and the temptation of having buñuelos and tortas fritas at home. Each family member adds their own touch: sugar, honey, or sometimes just bitters to accompany the mate. 📚 Culture, Language, and Identity | 🇦🇷🌎 The topic of language mixing comes up, the "Spanish with English interference" after years of living abroad, and the richness of maintaining traditions. We reflect on how mate and homemade recipes keep us connected to our roots and memories of childhood and family. #TortaFrita #ArgentineRecipe #Mate #FamilyHistory #Homecooking #Tradition #Winter #CabinFever #Memories #Family #YouTubeArgentina Thank you for joining us for this afternoon of tortas fritas and mates. Until next time, and enjoy the simple things! 🍩🧉❄️ Eating Argentinian Tortas Fritas + Drinking Mate on a Winter Day 🧉 BLOGS https://cheargentinatravel.com/ https://thatbackpacker.com/ https://nomadicsamuel.com/ https://acrossalberta.com/ https://pictureperfectportfolios.com/
