TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - Muhamad Fadli (29), a bus conductor on the Trans-Sumatra (ALS) bus who survived the fatal accident in North Musi Rawas (Muratara), revealed that the bus had experienced technical problems before the tragic incident that killed 16 people. The accident involved an ALS bus and an oil tanker truck on the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Karang Jaya Village, Karang Jaya District, on Wednesday afternoon (May 6, 2026). This resulted in a massive fire, trapping most of the passengers inside the bus. When met at Rupit Regional Hospital on Thursday (May 7, 2026), Fadli said the bus, which was traveling from Semarang to Medan, had previously experienced problems during the trip. However, he did not specify the type of technical problem the bus experienced. Fadli also recounted the moments leading up to the accident. According to him, the bus attempted to avoid a pothole before colliding with the oil tanker truck traveling in the opposite direction. The force of the impact shattered the bus's windshield. In a panic, Fadli jumped out through the windshield because the bus doors couldn't be opened. Shortly after the collision, flames reportedly erupted from the front of the bus, accompanied by black smoke filling the cabin. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the incident, so they didn't have time to escape as the fire quickly engulfed the bus. Three other survivors suffered serious injuries and are still receiving intensive care at Rupit Regional Hospital. All of the deceased victims have been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Palembang for identification.
