In this final episode of the rebuild series, I finish the last stages of assembly, set the valve clearances, install the ignition system, prepare the flywheel and clutch, prime the oil system, troubleshoot a few unexpected problems, and finally fire the engine up for the first time. As always, a few "simple" jobs turn into side quests—including a carburettor rebuild, a leaking thermostat housing, and a brand-new fuel pump that turns out to be faulty—but after working through everything the engine runs beautifully, develops good oil pressure, and proves to be leak-free. After several heat cycles, a re-torque, valve adjustment and compression test, the engine is ready for its new home in Western Australia. 00:00 Engine rebuild update & replacing the piston ring 00:39 Setting valve clearances 02:11 Rocker cover installation & gasket tips 04:01 New seals, acorn nuts & preventing oil leaks 06:22 Crankcase ventilation (CCV) explained 07:29 Setting the engine to Top Dead Centre (TDC) 08:49 Confirming cylinder #1 compression stroke 09:26 Installing the electronic distributor 11:08 Distributor setup & initial timing 13:17 Correcting distributor alignment 15:46 Flywheel repairs & dowel installation 17:49 Sizing the spigot bush 20:30 Preparing the engine for first start 22:43 Diagnosing a carburettor problem 23:38 Carburettor rebuild & fresh fuel 24:13 Installing the exhaust manifold 26:15 Spin-on oil filter adapter explained 28:36 Refitting the flywheel & clutch 30:47 Installing the engine 32:30 Final wiring & plumbing 33:52 Marking the timing scale 34:54 Fixing a coolant leak 35:50 Priming the engine with oil 38:23 Fuel system troubleshooting 39:16 Faulty new fuel pump 41:12 First engine start! 42:30 Initial checks & timing adjustment 43:45 Final results & post-run inspection 44:36 Engine sold & final thoughts
