When we had some years making Bitácora I invented “portable Bitácora”. Something extravagant, because no betacam equipment is portable, but I wanted to make excursions to remote places with everything and the logistical entanglement. It was like that in the late 90s we resolved to go up to the Roraima. None of us were prepared for this deed. No one climbed mountains, we weren’t sportsmen, we didn’t make pilates. But it was exciting to reach for the top. So we turned the first filming crew climbing up by foot to record the entire journey. Up until that time they had recorded the top going up on a helicopter. I confess that I stayed up for weeks with anguish of not achieving this. I climbed up Sabas Nieves daily but no one from the crew joined me. I came back as a mess, but with the self-sufficiency that adorns me, I insisted. The day came. A crew of 21 people. Because of the heavy equipment, we had to take an electric plant to charge the batteries. The plant alone weighed 40 kilos and a pemón carried it into his guayare. We ran out of gasoline on the base and the president of CVG helped us by sending a helicopter that was doing maintenance labor. The night before climbing up the wall I couldn’t sleep because of anxiety. I was crying alone in my tent. When I reached the wall and looked up, I understood the Roraima was allowing us to climb. Luisito - a technician from the crew - collapsed on the Tear Passage. He was crying. Frightened. A real panic attack. We took his burdens and took him step by step. We discovered the world on the upside. Euphoric, we hugged each other. We cried of happiness. I want you to enjoy this first time, in Roraima history, that a production crew recorded the ascent. It is really cinematographic. Slow. Passed. Amazing.
